Using Crosshair X in DayZ

DayZ ships with no crosshair on official first-person-only (1PP) servers. That's the point, it makes engagements scarier and rewards iron-sight aiming. But for hipfire at point-blank range, that "no crosshair" rule turns into "no chance." Crosshair X overlays a custom reticle without touching any game files, and it is BattlEye-safe.

Crosshair X and BattlEye compliance

DayZ uses BattlEye for anti-cheat. Crosshair X is BattlEye-safe because it runs completely outside the game process, the overlay is rendered through Microsoft's Xbox Game Bar, which BattlEye recognizes as a trusted system overlay (the same way it accepts Steam's overlay, Discord's overlay, and OBS Game Capture). It's a system-wide visual layer, not a game modification.

Server admin note: some community DayZ servers explicitly ban any third-party overlay in their rules even when anti-cheat allows it. Always check your server's rules before using Crosshair X on a community server.

How to Set Up

1
Make sure your version of Windows 10 or 11, the Microsoft Store app, and the Xbox Game Bar are fully up to date.
3
Setup the Game Bar Extension by following the in-app tutorial under the ‘Exclusive Fullscreen’ tab. DayZ defaults to exclusive fullscreen.
4
Pick a design from the community library. For DayZ, a small low-opacity dot is the standard choice, it gives you a hipfire anchor at point-blank without making the survival-sim atmosphere feel arcadey.
